HOSA – Future Health Professionals is a student-led organization for students pursuing a career in the healthcare field. Their mission is to empower members to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience.
This year during the International Leadership Conference, 35 teams from distinctive high schools and colleges from all over the USA, Canada, and China, came together for the Body Interact Virtual Patient Challenge.
The online competition was composed of two rounds: in the preliminary round teams had the chance to solve one wound care clinical scenario and the final broadcasted round, in which the top 15 teams fought for the first place, a cardiac clinical scenario was the challenge to be solved. Both clinical scenarios were basic and adapted to the level of knowledge of the participants.
As a reward, the top-3 winning teams won a Body Interact educational license that their school can use for 2 months for free.
Darssan Eswaramoorthi, a winning team member, mentions that “the visuals and all the graphics of the app are just amazing” and all the details (setting and timing, for example) enable him to understand “what doctors in real-life go through, whenever they treat and diagnose a patient”.
